I would caution some readers who may be squeamish that there are photographs in this book that they may find distasteful.

This detailed study of the naval Spanish Civil War describes how the Spanish Navy, torn in two and comprising a Republican and Nationalist part, fought a civil war at sea involving both Hitlers and Mussolinis navies.

In July 1936, a pro-fascist coup orchestrated by General Franco tore Spain apart and plunged the country into a bitter civil war.

These photographs and illustrations draw a picture in the reader’s mind of the events of that fateful day as the story unfolds. Aircraft patrols (against U-boats) and defensive launches of carrier aircraft (against recently detected enemy ships) are differentiated from raids. An aircraft 'raid' was always planned ahead of time. There are also numerous period photographs and illustrations to complement the written material. 'Raid' was different from 'battle', which was used for land, sea, or amphibious conflict. In the 80 pages that make up this book the reader learns much about what is fable and what is historical fact. These few pages set the tone for the remainder of the book.
